An intraocular lens implant is an artificial replacement for the lens of the eye. It is a part of the surgery to fix cataracts.

There are several different types:

Monofocal IOL: This is the most common. Unlike the natural lens, which can stretch or bend to help the eye focus, this implant stays focused at one distance. Either far away or close up lens may be needed to see things respectively.
