Details of Bladder Exstrophy and Epispadias Treatment

It is rare birth defect in which the bladder develops outside the fetus. So when it grows abnormally, it functions abnormally causing urine leakages.

• Epispadias. Where the tube to urinate out does not grows properly. 
• Bladder exstrophy. Where the bladder forms outside of the body. 
• Cloacal exstrophy. Where bladder and genitals do not separate from each other.

Treatment options to repair include:

Complete repair: This is performed to close the bladder and the abdomen and repairs the urethra and the outer sex organs in one go.

Staged repair: This involves three procedures, first to close the bladder and abdomen, and second repairs the urethra and sex organs and finally bladder neck reconstruction.
