Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation Surgery

Types of atrial fibrillation procedure:

Catheter ablation: It is a least invasive procedure. During which the surgeon inserts a thin, flexible tube into a blood vessel in your leg or neck to reach to the heart and sends out electrical signals that destroys the cells causing the arrhythmia. It has two types: (a) Radiofrequency ablation. Through which the doctor sends radiofrequency energy to create circular scars around each vein. (b) Cryoablation. A single catheter sends a balloon tipped with a substance that freezes the tissues to cause a scar.

Maze procedure: This is done while the patient is undergoing open-heart surgery for another problem. In this the doctor creates a pattern of scar tissue in the upper chambers of the heart, using an ablation device.

AV node ablation: Where a catheters is used to create scarring in an area of your heart called the AV node. Which will prevent the atria from sending faulty electrical signals to the ventricles.
