Details of Arthroscopic Debridement of Calcium Deposits

Arthroscopic debridement involves using surgical instruments to remove damaged cartilage or bone. During which the surgeon performs a washout to remove any debris around the diseased joint. And if something is still remaining after the washout, they are also removed. This is very common for osteoarthritis patients who found no relief from conservative treatment.

This can be performed in different manners:

Surgical debridement: This the fastest and very selective manner in which the surgeon has absolute control over which tissues to be taken out and which one to be left over there.

Autolytic debridement: In which the body's own enzymes and moisture to re-hydrate, soften and finally liquefy hard eschar and slough.

Mechanical debridement: When removal of tissue is necessary for the treatment of wounds, hydrotherapy which performs selective mechanical debridement can be used.

Maggot therapy: In maggot therapy, a number of small maggots are introduced to a wound in order to consume necrotic tissue.
