Details of Imperforate anus

It is a birth defect a baby girl is born with. In this defect the baby girl's vagina, urinary tract and anus do not separate from each other as they should be separated completely.

May include:

• One opening instead of three openings
• Elongated hooded opening
• Abdominal swelling

May include:

• Physical exam
• Ultrasound
• Retrograde genitogram
• Echocardiogram
• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Treatment method:

Temporary Colostomy: It is a temporary procedure so that the baby grows before surgery. In this procedure, two small openings are created to meet natural needs.

Perineal anoplasty: In this procedure, any fistulas is closed so that the rectum does not attache to the urethra or vagina anymore. And an anus is created with normal positioning.

Pull-through operation: In this procedure, the rectum is pulled down to connect it to the new anus.
