Details of Ultrasound Scan

In an ultrasound scan or sonography, high-frequency sound waves are used to capture live images of organs and its surrounding tissues and vessels inside the body. It is also one of the most preferred tests during pregnancy to view a developing fetus.

During an ultrasound scan, a sonographer applies a lubricating gel onto the skin, and then rubs a device that transmits the high-frequency sound waves through the body. As the sound waves are too high-pitched for humans to hear, they form images of bones and organs, which are interpreted by the doctor. Based on the reports of the scan, the doctor decides the future course of treatment for a particular condition.
