Details of Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty injects special cement into the vertebrae like vertebroplasty- with the additional step of creating space for the treatment with a balloon-like device. Kyphoplasty is a vertebral augmentation surgery to treat fractures in the vertebra. Kyphoplasty can relieve a damaged vertebra’s height and may also relieve pain.

During the procedure, the surgeon will insert a needle into the spine bone through the skin. They will then use X-ray images to guide them to the correct area to place a small device called a balloon tamp through the needle and into the fractured vertebra and then it is inflated to restore the height of the vertebrae.
