Details of TGA Tracheotomy

It is a surgical cut created through the neck into the windpipe. It gives direct access to the breathing tube to provide an airway and to remove secretions from the lungs.

• Subglottic Web

• Vocal cord paralysis (VCP)
• Laryngeal injury or spasms
• Congenital abnormalities of the airway
• Large tongue or small jaw
• Severe neck or mouth injuries
• Airway burns
• Sleep apnea
• Tumors
• Laryngectomy

• Subglottic Stenosis

This is done to:

• bypass upper airway
• remove secretions
• deliver oxygen to the lungs

• Physical examination
• Imaging tests
• Blood tests

During the procedure, the doctor places a tube in the windpipe so that you can breathe more easily. The tube is inserted through a cut in the front of the neck where the windpipe is located. This tube may be temporary or permanent.
