Details of Stapedectomy Surgery

Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure to treat a condition of the ear known as otosclerosis, which results in unusual growth of extra bones around the stapes (smallest bone of the body in the middle ear). Otosclerosis disrupts the functions of the stapes bone and leads to hearing loss.

During stapedectomy, the surgeon removes a part or the entire stapes bone and substitutes it with an artificial medical device, which allows transmission of sound waves again to the inner ear for hearing.
