Details of Sacrocolpopexy

Sacrocolpopexy is a surgical method to put in place a mesh from the vagina to the tailbone or sacrum to treat pelvic organ prolapse, a condition in which organs in the pelvis - the part of the body between the hip bones - droop down and swell into the vagina.

During sacrocolpopexy, the surgeon makes incisions in the abdomen and it is inflated with carbon-dioxide gas to create more space. Then, medical devices are inserted through the incisions and a surgical mesh is placed on the walls of the vagina to the tailbone with the aim to restore the drooping organs back to their normal position.
