Details of Renal Vein Thrombosis

Renal vein thrombosis (RVT) is a condition in which clots form in the vein which empties oxygen-reduced blood from the kidneys, leading to a number of urine flow issues.

Surgery: Only in extreme cases of renal vein thrombosis is surgery prescribed. The procedure involves removal of blood clots from the veins known as renal veins.

Dialysis: In some instances where RVT has caused significant damage to the kidneys, temporary dialysis is required to get rid of water, chemicals and other solutes from the blood, as kidneys fail to perform such functions in the normal course.

Blood thinners (anticoagulants): Medications to prevent clotting of blood.
