Details of Microscopic Voice Surgery

Microscopic voice surgery removes abnormal growths on the larynx. These are typically noncancerous growths that may develop in the area of the vocal folds as a result of persistent irritation or trauma. They can have a wide variety of causes, including vocal overuse, coughing, acid reflux and more.

Treatment options:

Removal of lesions: Noncancerous lesions on the vocal cords may need to be surgically removed. It can be performed using microsurgery, carbon dioxide laser surgery and laser kind of treatements.

Botox injections: These injections can decrease muscle spasms or abnormal movements in case of having neurological movement disorder that affects the vocal muscles of the larynx.

Thyroplasty: During this, an opening is made in the cartilage and doctor inserts an implant through the opening and pushes it against the paralyzed vocal cord, moving it closer to your other vocal cord.

Replacing the damaged nerve: In this procedure, a healthy nerve is moved from a different area of your neck to replace the damaged vocal cord.
