Details of Lung Carcinoid Tumor

This is a rare type of cancers which grows slowly. This is a type of neuroendocrine tumor that starts in special cells of the lungs and the body.

Types:

Typical carcinoid tumors: They grow slowly but they do not spread outside of the lungs usually.

Atypical carcinoid tumors: They grow faster and more likely to spread outside of the lungs.

• Coughing, sometimes with blood
• Wheezing
• Chest pain
• Shortness of breath
• Diarrhea
• Weight gain

• Chest X-rays
• CT scan
• Blood tests
• Urine tests
• Biopsy

Surgery: If detected early, a carcinoid tumor may be removed completely using surgery. in some cases, surgeon try to remove as much of the tumor as possible, to help control signs and symptoms. Chemotherapy or radiation therapy may also be used, sometimes after surgery.
