Details of Liver Cancer

This is a kind of cancer that begins in the liver. Several types exist. More common are cancers that spread to the spread to the liver instead of beginning in it.

Depends upon stage, age, overall health and personal preferences.

Surgery: The tumor may be removed, or a liver transplant may be performed.

Localized treatments: These include heating cancer cells, freezing cancer cells, injecting alcohol into the tumor, injecting chemotherapy drugs into the liver, and placing beads filled with radiation in the liver.

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy can be used to kill cancer cells and prevent them from growing. It can be injected into the body through veins.

Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy uses high-powered beams, such as X-rays and protons, to kill cancer cells.

Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy uses your immune system to fight cancer. Your body's disease-fighting immune system may not attack your cancer because the cancer cells produce proteins that make them undetectable by the immune system cells. Immunotherapy works by interfering with that process.
