What is Laparoscopic Biliopancreatic Diversion-LBPD?

This is performed for weight-loss which includes two steps:

  1. Sleeve gastrectomy in which about eighty percent of the stomach is removed, leaving a smaller tube-shaped stomach, similar to a banana.
  2. This step bypasses the majority of the intestine by connecting the end portion of the intestine to the duodenum near the stomach

Treatment of Laparoscopic Biliopancreatic Diversion-LBPD

During the procedure, the surgeon removes a large portion of the stomach and forms the remaining portion into a narrow sleeve leaving the valve intact which releases food to the small intestine. And during the second step a cut is made through the part of the small intestine just below the duodenum, and a second cut farther down, near the lower end of the small intestine. Then surgeon brings the cut end near the bottom of the small intestine up to the other cut end, just below the duodenum to bypass large segment of the small intestine.
