Details of Labyrinthectomy

This is a procedure used to decrease the function of the labyrinth of the inner ear. Can be done surgically or chemically as a treatment for Ménière’s disease.

• Recurring episodes of vertigo
• Hearing loss
• Ringing in the ear (tinnitus)
• Feeling of fullness in the ear

During the procedure, the surgeon removes the balance portion of the inner ear, thereby removing both balance and hearing function from the affected ear. This procedure is performed only if you already have near-total or total hearing loss in your affected ear.
