Details of Gum Lifting - Gingivectomy

This is a dental procedure in which a dentist or oral surgeon cuts away part of the gums in the mouth. Usually done for improvement of aesthetics or prognosis of teeth, for removal diseased wall of a periodontal pocket. Surgeries are usually completed with a surgical scalpel; however, in some instances a low- frequency laser may be employed instead. The undesirable tissue is trimmed and removed, the remaining gums are reattached in and around the teeth by stitches, and the area is cleaned with saline and special rinses. Local anesthetic is used. After the procedure is completed, a surgical pack is placed and left in place for a week.
