Details of Abscess Pelvic

An abscess contains infected pus or fluid, and is seprated by inflammatory tissue. A pelvic abscess most commonly follows acute appendicitis, or gynaecological infections or procedures. It can also occur as a complication of Crohn's disease, diverticulitis or following abdominal surgery. In males the abscess is usually found between the bladder and the rectum. In females the abscess is usually found between the uterus and the posterior fornix of the vagina, and the rectum posteriorly.

• Pain or uneasiness in pelvis
• High urinary frequency
• Diarrhoea
• Vaginal bleeding or heavy discharge
• Dysuria
• Deep tenderness in lower abdomen
• Pain or bleeding during intercourse
• Fever, sometimes with chills

• Gonorrhea or chlamydia infections
• Unprotected sex
• After childbirth
• Miscarriage or abortions

• Imaging tests such as MRI, Ct scans etc
• Blood tests
• Urine tests

Antibiotics. Your doctor will prescribe a combination of antibiotics and you will likely follow up with your doctor after three days to make sure the treatment is working. Temporary abstinence. Avoid sexual intercourse until treatment is completed and tests indicate that the infection has cleared in all partners. Surgery. It is rarely required when you don’t respond to antiobiotic treatment or it become life-threathening.
