What is Double Inlet Left Ventricle - DILV?

This congenital defect sees the left and right atria of the heart being connected to the same ventricle. Surgery makes oxygenated blood travel through the body possible.

Treatment of Double Inlet Left Ventricle - DILV

Surgery is necessary to repair the valve. Several surgeries may be required to get the heart to function normally. If blood flow to the pulmonary artery is blocked, a shunt is placed surgically for normal circulation. If there is over blood flow to the lungs, then a banding is placed to normalize.

Now second surgery called Glenn shunt is performed at the age of 6 months. Then final procedure called Fontan procedure is done when the child is 3-6 years old.
