Details of Cystectomy - Bladder Removal surgery

Cystectomy is a surgery to remove the urinary bladder. The prostate and seminal vesicles are typically also removed in men, while in women the uterus, ovaries and part of the vagina are also removed, in what is called Radical Cystectomy.

To perform this surgery, the surgeon will make a cut in your lower belly. This will allow space for the surgical team to properly access your bladder and the surrounding areas as needed.

• Blood clots
• Heart attack
• Infection
• Pneumonia
• Very rarely, death
• Dehydration
• Electrolyte abnormalities
• Urinary tract infection
• Bowel obstruction
• Ureter blockage
