Details of Craniotomy Surgery

It is a surgery in which a bone flap is removed to let a surgeon get access to the brain to perform any kind of surgery. It is typically round or oval. In this case the bone flap is returned to it's earlier place.

• Epilepsy
• Blood clots
• Brain Injury
• Blockage in the artery
• Fluid buildup

• Imaging tests such as MRI, CT Scan, PET Scan, X-rays and EEG

This has five types of surgeries:

Eyebrow craniotomy: During this small incisions are made in the eyebrow area to remove tumors from the area of front brain. This is a minimally invasive procedure.

Extended craniotomy: During this the front bone of the skull is cut to remove the tumor without any damage to the brain. It is performed when a minimally invasive procedure is not possible.

Translabyrinthine craniotomy: During which an incision is made backside of the ear to make the mastoid bone and inner ear bone apart to remove the the tumor with no damage to the brain

Orbitozygomatic craniotomy: During which large and complicated tumors are removed and complicated aneurysms are treated.

Retro sigmoid craniotomy: In this a small incision is made in the ear area to remove tumor.

• Bleeding in the scalp
• Brain death
• Loss of speaking ability
• Paralysis
