Details of Cornea Transplant

It is a surgical procedure in which the part of cornea is replaced with corneal tissue from a donor. It is performed to restore vision and reduce pain and improve the diseased cornea.

• Issues with the light

• Cornea scarring
• Keratoconus
• Thinner cornea
• Cornea swelling
• Corneal ulcer
• Infection or injury

During the procedure, a cut is made through the entire thickness of the diseased cornea to remove a small button-sized disk of corneal tissue. An instrument called cookie cutter is used to cut precisely. And then the new cornea is cut to be placed in the opening. Now this new cornea is stitched with a fine thread into the place.
