Details of Cholestaeoma

It is an abnormal, noncancerous skin growth in the middle section of the ear, behind the ear drum.

May include:

• Cyst growth
• Fluid drain
• Discomfort
• Hearing loss
• Ear bone damage

• Chronic ear infection
• Sinus infection
• Cold
• Allergy

Imaging tests such as CT scan

It is surgically removed.

Two methods:

• Mastoidectomy: This mastoid is the bone behind ear. The surgeon opens this bone up to remove the cyst.
• Tympanoplasty: This fixes damage of eardrum (tympanic membrane). The surgeon uses cartilage or muscle from another part of your ear to fill any holes in eardrum.
