What is PET Scan?

A positron emission tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test to examine the chemical
activity in various parts of the body with the help of a radioactive drug known as tracer.

Symptoms of PET Scan

Brain disorders
Heart diseases
Cancer

Treatment of PET Scan

During the process, the radiotracer is either injected, swallowed or inhaled, and it collects in
areas of the body where chemical activity is high. Then the patient lies on a narrow,
cushioned table that slides into a large machine. The cells, or activity, will flash as ‘hot spots’
or ‘cold spots’ on a PET scan, denoting areas of disease.

Risks of PET Scan

Allergic reactions
Radiation exposure
