Details of Brain Tumor Surgery

It is an accumulation of abnormal cells in the brain or a mass of abnormal cells in the brain. This can be cancerous (Malignant) and noncancerous ( Benign). When a tumor grows, this causes a lot of pressure on the tissues around. Sometimes, this is proved life-threatening.

• Blurred vision
• Confusion
• Vomiting
• Seizures
• Hand tremors
• Memory loss
• Unconsciousness
• Dizziness or vertigo
• Difficulty in writing or reading
• Severe headache in the morning, during sleep and sneezing or coughing

• Genetic history
• Chemical exposure
• Exposure to radiation

May be recommended:

• CT scan of the head
• MRI head
• Angiography
• Skull X-rays
• Biopsy
• Physical examination including neurological and ophthalmology tests

Treatment options:

Surgery: The doctor may perform an open surgery to remove the cancer as much as possible without damage to the tissues around.

Chemotherapy: It uses high doses' drugs to kill the cancer cells. It might be combined with the surgery.

Radiation therapy: It uses high-energy radiation beams such as photons and protons to kill the cancer cell but it is given after the surgery to kill the remaining abnormal cells.

• Stroke
• Death
• Paralysis
