Cost of Acetabular Fixation in India

An acetabular fracture is a break in the socket portion of the "ball-and-socket" hip joint. The majority of acetabular fractures are caused by some type of high-energy event, such as a car collision. In a smaller number of cases, a low-energy incident, such as a fall from standing, may cause an acetabular fracture in an older person who has weaker bones.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acetabular Fixation?

An acetabular fracture is a break in the socket portion of the "ball-and-socket" hip joint. The majority of acetabular fractures are caused by some type of high-energy event, such as a car collision. In a smaller number of cases, a low-energy incident, such as a fall from standing, may cause an acetabular fracture in an older person who has weaker bones.

Symptoms of Acetabular Fixation
  • Numbness.
  • Weakness.
  • Tingling sensation.
  • Pain in the hip area.
  • Swelling.
Causes of Acetabular Fixation
  1. An acetabular fracture results when a force drives the head of the femur against the acetabulum. This force can be transmitted from the knee or from the side.
  2. Acetabular fractures are sometimes caused by weak or insufficient bone. This is most common in older patients whose bones have become weakened by osteoporosis.
Diagnosis of Acetabular Fixation
  • Physical examination
  • Imaging tests
Treatment of Acetabular Fixation

Walking aids: That is to avoid bearing weight on your leg.

Positioning aids: This to restrict the position of your hip.

Medications: Your doctor may prescribe medication to relieve pain.

Surgical:

Open Reduction and Internal Fixation: During surgery, the displaced bone fragments are first repositioned into their normal alignment. Then metal plates and screws will be attached to the outer surfaces of the bone to hold the fragments together while they heal.

Total Hip Replacement: Sometimes the acetabulum is so damaged that repair is not possible to provide a good long-term result. In this situation, your doctor may recommend total hip replacement. In this procedure, the damaged bone and articular cartilage are removed and replaced with artificial parts.

Complications of Acetabular Fixation
  • Infections.
  • Blood clots.
  • Sciatic nerve injury.
  • Heterotopic ossification.
  • Avascular necrosis.
