Treatment of Eye Cancer

Treatment options:

Surgery: 

Iridectomy: If iris melanomas is very small, then this can be an option to partially remove the iris.

Iridotrabeculectomy: This is a partial removal of the iris and removal of outer part of the eyeball.

Iridocyclectomy: This is a partial removal of the iris and the ciliary body.

Transscleral resection: This is a surgical removal of melanoma od the ciliary body or choroid only.

Enucleation: This is a removal of complete eyeball. It is performed when melanomas becomes larger in size.

Orbital exenteration: This is a removal of the eyeball and paretial removal of surrounding parts.

Radiation Therapy:

Brachytherapy: In the procedure, small seeds of radioactive material are palced directly into or very close to the cancer. From the seeds, the radiation travels a very short distance, so most of it will be focused only on the tumor.

Proton beam radiation therapy: In this procedure, proton beams are used toward the cancer instead of using x-rays as in standard radiation therapy.

Laser Therapy:

Transpupillary thermotherapy: In this procedure, a infrared light is used to heat and kill the tumor.

Laser photocoagulation: In this procedure, high-energy light beams to burn tissue.

Chemotherapy: This is a kind of procedure, in which certain kind of drugs are given to the patients in cancer affected area or though veins.
