Treatment of Carotid Artery Stenosis

Treatment options:

Carotid endarterectomy: An incision is made from front of the neck to remove the blockage or fatty deposits around the carotid artery and to open the diseased carotid artery. And then the artery is repaired with stitches or graft.

Carotid angioplasty and stenting: This is performed when you have very difficult and severe situation where carotid endarterectomy is not possible. In which a minor balloon is inserted with the help of a tiny tube called catheter into the diseased area where the balloon is inflated to open the artery and a stent is placed to prevent any kind of blockage and narrowing.
