Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) uses a wire loop heated by electric current to remove cells and tissue in a woman’s lower genital tract. It is used as part of the diagnosis and treatment for abnormal or cancerous conditions.

During this, the doctor will insert an instrument called a speculum into your vagina to spread the walls of the vagina apart to expose the cervix. He might use a colposcope. This is done as a diagnostic tool, or to remove abnormal tissue. LEEP wires come in different sizes and shapes.
